A Service of Hospitality
January 9th, 2012

Rarely does the idea of hospitality involve a super natural impartation. It more commonly involves an experience with someone from the South or a visit to grandmother's house. Regardless, what hospitality does is demand is an attitude of service.

In one of the most interesting experiences of Jesus' journey, He models this idea of service in its purest form:

"Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him."   John 13:3-5

The context of this moment is equally as significant as the act of Jesus actually washing his disciples' feet. The supper is taking place within days of His arrest and crucifixion. Any one else would have been doing what they enjoy most - eating their favorite meal, sitting amongst the people they love most. Not Jesus. He purposefully chose to humble Himself before his disciples and in one of the most socially degrading acts, wash their feet.

This act reveals the importance of experiencing Jesus through the act of service. The disciples were able to see the reality of this man's love for them in the most tender of moments. Jesus made this experience be a quiet one filled with selfless sacrifice for the sake of those around Him.

The staff at the Hideaway aims to do the same thing - create a place of refuge for their guests that allows them to truly release the worries of the world and focus on the present issues. Undoubtedly guests who arrive are filled with incomprehensible apprehensions - full exposure, guilt, shame, the thought of knowing another couple, jobs, children, etc. The Hideaway tirelessly works to take care of their guests so that all apprehensions are absorbed by the presence of the Holy Spirit.

The Hideaway and its staff create a place where hospitality heals. Through the countless prayers said throughout the day to the full service at meal times, there is no request too great. They have been called to create a place for The Hideaway guests that allows them to feel like they are the most important people in their marriage. Jesus saw his disciples as worthy of His love and admiration. As his people The Hideaway wants the opportunity to impart some of his love to their guests through their relentless hospitality and as a result, experience the love of Jesus.

Come experience it.
